Another look at urban legends and getting the facts

I promised Gina, my bloggy twin (seriously – it is amazing what we have in common), that I would post my absolute favoritest (Yes, I know that isn’t correct grammar, as I minored in English, with a writing option. Please don’t send the grammar police after me yet!) comic from xkcd.

First, you have to understand that I receive way too many chain letters and chain emails containing scares, supposed petitions, government bills about to pass, etc. So, when the latest email chain letter comes through, I always turn to snopes.com, to find out if they have the scoop on the real story. I majored in mass communications AKA the school of journalism, where even though I didn’t follow the journalism tract, we were all taught to CHECK OUR FACTS. Snopes.com has always been a great way to do that, when it comes to urban legends and the like.

Things that make you go hmm… ;-)

Oh man. I love Snopes. I’ve referred many a family member to their site when they forward me stupid things like the Applebees gift certificate or a rant against canola oil. :)

Is that true? That they start the forwards???

That was awesome! I use snopes almost daily too, as I get so many retarded emails from very naive friends. So annoying. I am rude and do “reply to all” and tell everyone who was copied on my friend’s forward that it’s not true and attach the snopes link.
