So beautiful, so peaceful, yet so much of a hassle

snowflake.gifIt is snowing again. This has been an insane season for snow and other interesting weather.

The last comparison I saw said we were only two inches above the average snowfall, although we were ten inches above what we had seen by this time last year. That was prior to the recent dustings (I say that sarcastically as Saturday’s supposed dusting was quite a bit more), and prior to the expected 12 to 18 inches we are supposed to see by the time today is over with.

Yes, 12 to 18 inches. Of snow. Within 24 hours. (I’ll let that sink in with some of you folks in the sunshine states for a moment…)

Does snow worry me? Not overly so… I grew up in the northern midwest, and went to college in the state I fondly refer to as “Minne-snow-ta.” I fondly recall taking turns with my friends as we all worked to shovel our cars out of snowdrifts covering any sign of our vehicles actually being in that spot, and learning how much fun intentional fish-tailing can be.

However, even for someone who grew up in this area where the weather changes rapidly from minute to minute, more than a foot of snow within a day is a little extreme.

And me, not being insane, has decided that it isn’t worth it to be on the roads at all today. Especially with an hour drive that would probably turn into at least one and a half hours. Why risk my life out there, or add my car to the mess when there are folks that absolutely must travel?

So, Little Dude and I are watching the snow fall sometimes peacefully, sometimes with a fury, but we are watching it from our windows, at home. It truly is beautiful as we watch the world become a blank slate, and the trees become adorned in their wedding finest.

Like I said, I’m fortunate and can work from home today, but the Hubby did have to drive into work, and I know many others that had to drive in this mess, too. For them, I wish safe and careful travels.

Stay safe everyone – take it slow out there. And, if you are able, enjoy the beauty of the snow, before you start swearing at the mess it is making!

Be glad it’s sow there. It’s ice here. Sigh. I’m so tired of this already.

We only got a couple inches of snow here yesterday, and we won’t be getting any more today. We’re missing The Big Dump by an hour’s driving distance. Woot! When the weather was bad, my mom would always bake something with me. Now I want cookies. Thanks a lot.

That’s a whole lot of snow at one time! I’ve NEVER seen that much snow at one time. *lol*

Better you than me, I guess.

Gotta love the joys of fishtailing.
