Burning cell phone (this is not my year for tech gadgets)

This year has been a bad one in the land of technology for our family – specifically me.
First, we had the slow, painful death of my Palm device - my faithful companion for many a year. That began the end of last year, but worsened to the point of unreliability by February.
Then came March. My laptop decided to die. Completely. It was a very unhappy time in this household.
Along came April, and the Hubby’s computer ended up with a lovely virus. I got very little sleep, but restored that to working order.
And now May, and the Hubby and I have been talking about how poorly my camera is working. This was a major disappointment, since I bought it just prior to Little Dude’s birth, wanting better quality and more reliability for the millions of pictures I planned to take.
I don’t know what everyone else is doing with their economic stimulus check, but our money is already spent. Without trying. And not exactly on childcare costs and some of the other expenses on which we hoped to use it.
It appears our electronic, technology-driven devices have a conspiracy going on getting us to spend money we don’t have.
Which brings me to the latest equipment crash…
I have two cell phones – my personal one and my work one. My work one is wonderful, allowing me to connect with the office and my various contacts when I’m not working in my office. In fact, they just upgraded our work phones the end of last year. My personal phone – well, it is due for an upgrade in a month or so, and really needs it, but has served me faithfully.
As of Monday morning, I’m down my work cell phone. It appears that sometime between Friday through Sunday, that cell phone, which is still new and kind-of shiny, decided to “short-out.” I say “short-out,” as I don’t know what else to think of a phone that won’t charge, and overheats if it is on. And I don’t mean it gets mildly warm, I mean I could melt wax on it. It didn’t quite get hot enough to fry an egg, but I had taken out the battery, so who knows…
The good news - it is under warranty. The bad news – the cell phone place is looking for reasons to void that warranty. I could end up paying work for a cell phone, should the cell phone place deem my claim to be voided, due to injury I may have inflicted on the phone.
The sales lady was pretty specific on asking me if I had “run over the phone,” or, “dropped it in the toilet.” I assure you – neither of these scenarios has even come close to happening.
However, I have let my darling toddler hold the phone and push the buttons. What are the chances that he killed the phone? And why, oh why, do all of our techno-gadgets appear to have it in for me?

I would be losing my mind if all my gadgets were failing me. What a joke. I am so so so sorry you have to deal with all that.
Maybe you have some sort of super magnetic force field surrounding your house?
My husband would be having FITS if it happened to us!!! … I sure hope they cover it!
I have a dear friend who can kill an appliance by merely looking at it. I have her over when I want a new appliance, LOL. So, I beg you to STAY away from my electronics, until I need a new one. Please…
Sorry for all the electronics deaths. Yikes…
