We made it. We, the parents, and Little Dude, survived his first day in daycare/school.

He wore his spiffy new short outfit proudly, but was less than thrilled that he had to wear socks and shoes (he’s been used to being barefoot a lot with the warm weather). As always, he didn’t have an issue with the hat and sunglasses once we got outside.

The first day was only a half day, but he did eat his lunch (didn’t want his breakfast, though), worked on finger painting (with green glitter paint, I’m told – I hope I get to see it next time!) and played outside. I’m told he would get sad when his room door would open and close – his teachers and I think he thought I was still out in the hall somewhere.

He did begin to rest/nap just before I picked him up, which is progress for him, since that is something we always have had issues with, when it comes to him being away from home. I did pick up a tear-stained, blotchy-faced little boy (see below), but the teachers did assure me he had some fun, too. I think he was just tired and overwhelmed by the time I got there.

So, we made it. He goes back one more day this week – another half day. Next week we start full days, two days per week. Otherwise, my mom is still caring for him on other days, while I have some telecommuting that I am able to do, too.

But, we made it. And I think he’ll be okay. (And so will I…)
