We’ve been hit.

First, we are all okay, so I suppose this next stuff is really minor, but please allow me to wallow in frustration for a little bit.

Next, let’s skim past all of the electronic devices that have somehow died in our possession as of late, as if I think too much about where this puts us for the year, I will begin to cry again.

During the huge storms in our area yesterday, we thought our biggest worries were high winds, possible hail, and the clouds that would spawn the scary twisting and turning funnels (I have no desire to reenact any scenes from the movie Twister).

We were supposed to be at a wedding and a graduation party yesterday. That time was cut short by tornado and storm warnings, as we spent more time bonding with our basement. We only made it to the graduation party for a short period of time (arriving at the party just before the next major downpour hit), and putting in a brief appearance at the wedding dinner.

It turns out we should have been more concerned about the lightning.

At this time we know we have:

  • no internet (I’m at my parents – you’ll realize why when you get to item #3 on this list.)
  • limited TV/satellite service to our living room only (one of the DVR boxes appears to be blown, as well as some cable may need to be replaced…)
  • a dead washer (but the dryer is okay – although it would have been easier if that happened the other way around, as I can hang-dry things better than hand-washing them…)
  • a dead garage door

We have a few other minor things – some were items not even connected to electricity, but somehow appear to have received a jolt (including two battery-operated items – how bizarre is that?!?!?), and we’re still looking for damage anywhere around the house.

Right now I’m at my parent’s house running some laundry in their washer, so I can take it home to my dryer. (Thank you mom and dad for lending me your internet, too!)

The Hubby has repaired the crack in the basement that we just discovered (water on the basement floor – always a good time, NOT) and is having no luck with repairing the car that now wants to die – these last two aren’t related to the lightning, but I’m just sayin’… You know?

Anyhow, posting may be spotty for a while, as I will be living the full and complete life of discovering what our insurance company will allow us to pull out of their greedy paws will cover and which organs we will have to arrange to sell on the black market how we are going to replace repair everything.

But, we are okay. Hope all my friends and family can say the same thing!

(My sister, Mrs V, suffered some major roof damage in recent storms in their area, too, so spread your love in her direction, too.)

Okay, I will not whine about my roof, gutters and siding anymore. UGH… Our insurance is sending an adjuster on the 24th (or was it the 27th). We’re in the queue for getting our roof replaced. (Looks to be July 17th or so…) So far our insurance agent has been helpful. I just hope it stays that way… And that the Gorilla tape holds.

Maybe you should become Amish. :D No electronics, but really, really good noodles.

How frustrating and scary. We have never been hit by lightening but have had the “when it rains it pours” feeling of everything going out at once.

Insurance can be the best and worst of situations. Seems they want you to continue to pay your premiums but do not, under any circumstances, make a claim. Best wishes on that.

Yikes! *bug hugs* from Minnesota! How awful!

Oh RC. This is just awful. My parents just went through this to a lesser extent. I hope everything gets replaced quickly and for very little cost to you. Hey. A girl can dream, right?

    Yikes!

I was complaining about having spent thousands over the years on insurance and never having got anything for it … Then it dawns on you that, Actually maybe that is how I would like it to stay.

I hope it all works out for you soon.

How frustrating! Glad you are all ok, though. Maybe you live within a magnetic field that is destroying all your devices.

oh my! i do not know what to say….yikes!

best of luck, at least only things were hurt ….money …yours or the insurance companies will cover that.

    take care of you,

    storm

    Hi RC,

Thank you for sharing this. Fortunately when we had our recent lightening storms, I unplugged the PC and TV when the storm came through. But then when I went to plug the PC back in, my heart sunk. I couldn’t get it to work. After much stress, I realized I had plugged the shredder into the PC slot (and not the PC.) Whew!
