Which one of these things do not belong?

July 11, 2008
As Sesame Street taught us, one of these things is not like the other. Can you guess which one?

Did you guess Supercat? He is a cat, and the rest of us pretend to be are humans. Wrong answer, though… (And he thinks he is a human, or a dog, or any other species out there…)

Did you guess me?I’m the only female in the house, although poor Supercat does kind-of walk the non-gender-specific line, due to a little procedure he had way back when, but wrong again…

Did you guess Little Dude? The other three of us are in our adult years, so he is the only truly young one in the group. That is not the correct answer though.

I guess that leaves the Hubby. And how, may you ask, is he different than the rest?

He is the only one of us who has not been sick, or to the doctor in the last week.
Yesterday, I stopped to see the doctor for a rapid-strep test, which was negative, but due to the blisters appearing on my hands, in my mouth and on my feet, I’m guessing Little Dude actually had Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, and I now have it, too. (There was a small outbreak at his “school” and I was suspicious, but the doctors he saw both drew different conclusions, and the one flatly turned down my theory on Hand, Foot and Mouth, even after we told him about the outbreak.)
This would explain his high fever (and my recent high fever), and his rash at the end of last week – which happened to also be on his feet. Not to mention his poor throat was probably a mess, judging by how I feel. I’m not discounting the allergy to the antibiotic, but I am positive the rash on his feet was not related to that, and I don’t think the doctor ever really looked at his toes, despite me pointing out the difference from the rash on his legs.
After talking to my mom, she does not recall me having it as a child, which would explain why I’m getting it now. Hopefully the Hubby was exposed way back when, although there are a few different strains of this virus.
As for Supercat, he has blood in his urine, which he kindly shared with us on Little Dude’s toys, this morning. And I don’t just mean a little blood. It scared the living daylights out of me, as I’ve lived through two male cats passing away from kidney disease.
He visited the vet, and we are treating him for a bladder infection. He’s living in the basement for the day, as I can’t have him covering the house in urine – especially the bloody kind. He’s started the anti-inflammatory and will get his antibiotic with his dinner, as it needs to be taken with food.
It could still be something worse (the onset of cancer or kidney disease – both common in male cats), but his blood-work earlier this year was excellent, and the sample of urine I was able to bring to the vet was more indicative of an irritated or infected bladder. Either are easy to treat. I’m hoping it clears up, as he hates to not be around his humans, and I hate not to have him around us. Plus, I don’t want to deal with the thought of losing him right now, and those other possibilities don’t have happy endings.
Since these types of things supposedly come in threes, are we done now? Plus, I’m starting to feel like Little Miss Gloom-and-Doom.

(And WordPress is having issues with paragraph-spacing today, so I’ve had to go through and do a little manual HTML coding… Not my strong suit, but it reminds me that I need to go get some training to advance my Web skills, as it helps in my profession. I feel stressed and sick right now and didn’t need that reminder…)

Oh. I was going to go with SuperCat, because only his eyes have that possessed look. ; )
Hope you all get to feeling better! Good grief!

Oh how sad. On everything. We lucked out on the Hand, Foot and Mouth disease thing. Ben got in when he was a baby, but didn’t get really sick from it. — I hope SuperCat gets better soon.

Hand, Foot and Mouth, huh? I can’t even recall if it ever was at our house. I remember the kids picking up some nasty viral type thing at vacation bible school 7 years ago that was like it, but the doctor never confirmed it.

Hope you guys feel better soon, and the hubby stays healthy.

Sorry SuperCat isn’t feeling well either. Poor kitty. I hope the meds help.

Oh, and I forgot to add: That picture of you is awesome.

I hope things start looking up at your house. It isn’t fun to be sick AND have to care for a sick child AND a sick pet. Many, many hugs to you!

I’m *finally* feeling better tonight so here’s hoping that good health is headed your way too!
