Counting the calories
I’ve had a few requests for more information on what I’m doing to lose the excess baggage currently attached to my body. Simple answer – counting my calories. You must take in less than you use.
As I’m not looking to be a stick, I think this avenue will be the most effective since it isn’t stopping me from eating favorite foods, for the most part. No special diet – just awareness of everything I am putting into my mouth.
This has worked for me in the past, but I’ve had issues sticking to it. Especially around holidays, vacations and any other occasion where wonderful goodies surround me. It is difficult for me to allow myself a treat one day, and then get back on the wagon the next, since I have an all or nothing personality.
Not to mention that “fear of failure,” thing I’ve mentioned. That is a quick way to knock yourself off of succeeding at anything. Seriously.
Anyhow, if you are interested in in counting more of your calories, I have found a good Web site, and recently joined versus lurking there for more information on various foods – Calorie Count Plus, from About.com. It is completely free, and they have a lot of nifty tools.
Prior to using that, I was just tracking my calories in my head, which I still do most days. However, their calorie-tracking tool shows your cholesterol intake, carbohydrates, fats and such, though, so it is kind-of nice to see that just for reference, occasionally.
Wish me luck as this isn’t a diet, but a lifestyle change. Truly.
And no chastising when I splurge over the holidays or on vacations. Just encourage me to get back to being more healthy afterwards, okay?

Luck! You can do it!
Sounds great. Good Luck to you. You can do it. You’re an inspiration to me to get with the “program.”
I don’t believe in counting calories but I do believe in burning them…
Just remember the old mantra whenever you start to lose it, “a moment on the lips, forever on the hips.” LOL
I count calories too, but I used a program called “Diet Power” that I bought in ’03 when I was doing so well… I hope I do that well this time!
I always go away with adjusting the other side of the balance by doing ridiculous amounts of exercise … but it would appear my life no longer has room for it … alas nobody has mentioned this to my appetite and I have therefore ballooned since. I just keep telling myself that it will be alright when …
That shold have read – got away with
I give up
Good luck!
