Tea, a drink with jam and bread
With the cold weather and the viruses/infections running amuck in our household, I’ve been imbibing a lot of hot tea.
The Hubby and I don’t drink coffee, but I enjoy many types of tea (thus the reason I LOVE going out for English tea, at Disney World).
Lately, I’ve been sticking to some basic, no caffeine, fruity-type flavors, and I’ve been drinking so much, that I’m certain if I traveled to Boston, I would get thrown over the side of a ship.
One other member of our household has joined me on this tea-drinking rampage, and it hasn’t been the Hubby (or Supercat).
Yes, if Little Dude sees me with a mug, he immediately asks for a drink of “coffee” (which he sees my mom drink all the time), or “teef.”
“Teef” would be Little Dude’s word for “teeth,” and now “tea.”
And apparently, although genetically impossible, I’m raising a young Brit in my household, judging by his love of the stuff.
For more drinking of “teeth,” visit Tendrils regarding her hot cocoa story. You’ll never think of mini-marshmallows in the same way…
(The Hubby and I have diverse backgrounds, but neither of us can claim British roots. My tiny bit of French ancestry comes the closest, but I’m pretty certain that just means I should love high-priced wine, art and fashion. Okay, that does sound a bit like me. Hmm…)

Now I must go watch the Sound of Music. *lol*
I love tea (and don’t like coffee), but Joe and the kids won’t touch tea with a 10 foot pole… Oh well. I don’t mind drinking my tea alone. *lol*
I don’t care for coffee. My thinking has always been that if I need to keep drinkng something until I can learn to like the taste then it’s not the drink for me.
Hot tea is something I also have a hard time drinking. Being the southern girl I am I love iced tea but have never acquired the tast for it hot. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right kind.
You and Little Dude enjoy your tea and stay warm in the cold weather it appears you all are having.
OK … This is where I out myself as a failed Brit (It really should be limeted to the English by the way) because the only time I drink tea is after a game of rugby with about 5 spoons of sugar in to fight the sugar cravings. Other than that I don’t do grown up drinks … just pop!
Oh, and on occasion in the summer, Mrs Geek and I will stop in a quaint little tea shop somewhere and have a traditional cream tea (Which is the drink with Jam, Clotted Cream and a Fresh Scone … A much nicer way to enjoy it).
I’ve been away too long, cool theme!
I have started drinking more tea and my coffee drinking 14 YO might love tea even more. My little guys don’t seem to care for it yet, though.
I have a storytime dad whose 3 year old loves to have a sip of his coffee. I’d rather have tea.
Julie – I rather enjoy the sound of music, too!
mrsmacheide – I felt the same about many acquired tastes. If I need to work at liking some sort of food or beverage, why bother?
Mr Geek – Scones, clotted cream and jam – YUM! And I found out my Hubby does claim a little English in his roots, so there is my answer on Little Dude.
Chris – So glad to see you and glad to know you are okay!
inthefastlane – I don’t know why Little Dude likes it at his age, but he does, and I figure it is one habit I will encourage.
Stacey – My little sister did the coffee thing as a kid, and Little Dude has expressed interest in Grandma’s coffee, but we’ve said no to that.
I wish I liked tea. Don’t do coffee either. But I LOVE hot chocolate, especially with a shot of Bailey’s and whipping cream!
I don’t drink coffee or tea either. I do love a good cup of hot cocoa on a cold day though. Maybe “teef” will become a habit in the future???
my grandma was irish and lived in england. tea was always served in a cup and saucer….when i was a l’il bit, she would make me a cup of tea and because it was too hot to drink, she would always put some in the saucer for me as it cooled off quickly.
my other grandmother, my nani, lived in india. she too would make us little people tea. the word for tea is chai as you may know. for breakfast, we would get sweet chai in a bowl with bread….i guess an old version of cereal….
i still find a cup of tea very soothing and calming. i may have a coffee in the morning frequently but come three o’clock, you will find me putting the kettle on for a cuppa’
cheers,
storm
Andrea – I’ll join you for the hot chocolate, too, but a nice cup of tea in the evening is just wonderful.
kweenmama – Again, another hot cocoa drinker who I would join.
storm – What a wonderful memory! And I do enjoy a good chai occasionally, too. I think drinking from a saucer as a young person was pretty common, as I think my great-grandmother would have me sip hot milk that way, occasionally. (And she was German.)
