Stop to smell the roses
In this high-paced world, it becomes far to easy to zip past the little wonders in nature – grass that has turned from brown to green, the smell of spring on the breeze, freshly bloomed flowers and worms.
Yes, worms.
I grew up in a family of females (my poor dad never had a decent amount of bathroom time), but as a mother to a boy, I’ve learned that we don’t make much time to stop and smell the roses.
However, we make time to stop and count (and touch) the worms.

We ran a few minutes late for school on Monday, but it was worth it. Little Dude had to walk from worm to worm on our driveway, crouching down low to examine each one. He finally touched two of them – marveling at how they squirmed away from him.
To see the world anew through the eyes of a child is a wondrous gift.

Ick! This Mama doesn’t do worms!!! *lol*

It’s one of the best things about being a parent.
I love worms. I’m convinced this is why I had a boy.
And yes, you are so right.
Great photo of his bravery! Boys are so much fun! Next summer he’ll be gathering them all up in his hands to make a collection to take into the house. Well, if he is anything like Liam he will.
For now it is poking at them … soon he’ll be picking them up and waving them ate you …
So far we have had pet snails, spiders and an ant farm (a gift) … none of which ended particularly well.
Julie – Worms don’t bother me, surprisingly. I actually bait my own hook if I go fishing (now touching the fish – that is another story…).
Vered – I agree, and thanks for the plug via your tweet!
Ree – I think I had a boy because of my love of fast cars and firefighting. Although, as I said, the worm thing isn’t a huge deal with me either…
Gina & Mr Geek – Shush! No collections/pets of that sort in the house. Thank you very much. We have a cat. He will remain the only pet.
It is so hard to slow down, sometimes, yet so important. Thanks for the reminder.
